Third-Party Notetakers in Teams Meetings

Since I work in the legal field, the issue of people sending their AI notetakers to a meeting, either in their place or to take notes automatically, is a prickly one.

This link provides an in-depth examination of some of the issues affecting everyone. Still, when lawyers are involved in the meeting, the elephant in the room is whether this app is recording confidential information and what it is doing with that information.

Practical AI: Using Third-Party AI Notetaking Apps with Teams Meetings

Hosting the meeting yourself and using Copilot is a safer option. It is also more expensive. Blocking external attendees from adding a note-taking application might also be a good idea, which might seem rude.

I’d argue that adding an app to a meeting you’re not hosting without asking is also rude, but that’s just my opinion.

Then again, there has already been legal action brought against Otter.ai, so perhaps this is all going to become a legal issue we need to keep an eye on.
