Anthropic now a Microsoft Subprocessor
This is a change from the previous warnings about allowing access to the Claude LLM from within Copilot:

To enable this change, Anthropic has onboarded as a Microsoft subprocessor. As part of this update, we are deprecating the previous option that allowed Microsoft tenant admins to opt-in to use Anthropic models under Anthropic’s separate commercial terms and data processing agreement. This change simplifies the experience and strengthens compliance and security under Microsoft’s enterprise framework.
As a subprocessor, Anthropic will operate with Microsoft oversight through contractual safeguards and appropriate technical and organizational measures. The Microsoft Product Terms and Microsoft Data Protection Addendum (DPA) apply to use of Anthropic models through Microsoft’s enterprise Online Services. Such use is also covered under our Enterprise Data Protection. The Microsoft Customer Copyright Commitment (CCC) applies to Anthropic models used within products covered by the CCC’s, including Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio.
This will soon be on by default, and the new opt-in option seems to be rolling out now. This is a pretty significant change for many of us who had been concerned about vetting data protection agreements with Anthropic before allowing user access to the Claude option in Coiplot Chat, and who’ve also watched new agents for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint rollout, but not to our tenants with Anthropic model access disabled.
I’m looking forward to adding this to our existing Copilot arsenal once we fully consider the new reality. Will this change your thinking on using Copilot to access Claude?
