Worth Reading – Data Governance Is the Real Copilot Readiness Test

This is the sad reality for many of us:

One of the biggest misunderstandings about Microsoft 365 Copilot is that it somehow bypasses security. It does not. It works within the permissions, access controls and information boundaries already in place.

That should be reassuring, but for many businesses it is not.

Data Governance Is the Real Copilot Readiness Test

At the recent ILTA Conference, I’m fairly certain that every AI session, conversation, or discussion I heard started or ended with Information  Governance. It’s a real issue, and Copilot is great for living inside the tenant, being the safer option, and giving you some control, but most of that benefit goes away if there is SharePoint sprawl, oversharing, a lack of proper governance and retention policies, or plain neglect.

In fact, Copilot will shine a light on that before you can even get approval for your first label to be published.

You might not be ready for Copilot, or any enterprise AI tool, if your environment lacks proper governance. Sorry.
