Worth Reading – Copilot Tasks: From Answers to Actions
This is coming, but it also appears to consumer Copilot users for now? (I get an error trying to sign up for the preview from a M365 work/school account.
If this is the case (I did see a couple of posts that mentioned it was only available in consumer Copilot, but there’s no official documentation), that also tells me the security and compliance mechanisms that business accounts would require don’t exist yet. This is a pattern I’ve seen repeated with Copilot: features that are available to consumers long before business accounts, if ever.
Security and compliance take time. Consumers, act accordingly.
Conversational chatbots were the first chapter of AI. Today is the beginning of the second. We are excited to introduce Copilot Tasks — AI that doesn’t just talk to you, but works for you. This is a moment we’ve been building toward since we first launched Copilot: the shift from chat to actions. From answers, thoughts, and drafts to completed tasks. From just talking to getting things done.
I think there are some opportunities in AI for completing tasks, but I also think there is a serious risk in taking action without proper oversight. I’ll be very interested in seeing how Microsoft gets this out to business customers.
